Pan Burns on Stone-Effect Laminate Worktop Repaired in Ashton-under-Lyne
Hot pan burns had blistered a stone-effect laminate worktop beside the hob. I cut them out, filled them and painted the speckled pattern back in by hand.

The damage
Colin got in touch about his mum's kitchen in Ashton-under-Lyne. A hot pan had been put down on her brown stone-effect laminate worktop next to the hob, leaving burn marks across the surface. The heat had blistered the laminate so the top layer lifted and broke away, showing pale rings and darker patches through the pattern.
How I repaired it
With a burn, what you see is only the tip of the iceberg: the heat damages the laminate past the visible mark. I removed the loose and lifted material and used a Dremel to cut out all the burnt areas, taking a little depth out so the filler bonds properly. Then I filled and sanded it flat, primed it, colour-matched the base coat and airbrushed it in. The speckled stone pattern was painted back in by hand to blend into the rest of the top, then I sealed it with lacquer so it feels the same as the rest of the worktop. It took about 3 hours.
The result
The burns have gone into the pattern, and the repair cost a fraction of new worktops. Aftercare is simple: use trivets for hot pans, clean with soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, nothing acidic, and never scour the repaired area.
