The damage
Gavin had burn marks on his walnut block-effect laminate worktop, right beside the hob: two pale patches where the heat had lifted the surface, plus two smaller marks. On a dark wood pattern they stood out every time he cooked.
How I repaired it
I removed the damaged laminate and took a little depth out so the filler would bond properly, then filled, sanded flat and primed. I matched and airbrushed the base colours of the wood blocks first.
The grain is what makes or breaks a wood-effect repair. I drew it back in with ultra-fine architect's permanent pens in black and brown, line by line, following the blocks through the repair. They were a godsend on this job. Then I sealed it with lacquer and buffed it so it feels like the rest of the top. It took about 2 to 3 hours.
The result
The grain now runs straight through where the burns were, and from the same angle you can't pick out the repair.
Aftercare is simple: use a chopping board and trivets, clean with soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, nothing acidic, and never scour the repaired area. Light use after an hour, normal use the next day.

★★★★★
“Contacted Jasen to sort out a burn mark on my worktop. He's quick to respond and the quoted price was competitive. As for the repair itself, the guy is an absolute magician, I couldn't be happier with it.”
