Burnt, Swollen Worktop Edge Rebuilt in Chester
What looked like a small burn had swollen the front edge down to the chipboard. I rebuilt the edge and repainted the terrazzo in one morning.

The damage
Olaide sent me a photo of a small burn on a grey terrazzo-effect laminate worktop. I could see swelling around it, so I explained it would be bigger once I opened it up. It was bigger than even I expected: the front edge had lifted away down to the chipboard. There was also a small burn a little further along.
How I repaired it
I removed all the loose and swollen material. Because the damage was on the edge, I filled it with Plasgel rather than filler. It's a glue with an activator, extremely strong, and it keeps the edge hard-wearing and watertight. Then I profiled the edge back to shape, primed and airbrushed the base colour.
Getting that airbrushed base colour right was the key. The terrazzo detail helped hide the repair, and I painted it in with fine-liner pens and a brush. I repaired the second small burn at no charge while I was there. The whole job took about 3 hours, done in a morning.
The result
The edge is solid again and the terrazzo pattern carries straight across it.
Aftercare is simple: use a chopping board and trivets, clean with soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth, nothing acidic, and never scour the repaired area. Light use after an hour, normal use the next day.
