The damage
Lewis had a chip out of the front edge of his granite worktop, a grey, black and white speckled stone. The impact had crushed the edge and left a pale, powdery patch that stood out against the dark speckles every time he walked past.
How I repaired it
Granite is hard and busy, so the repair has to be just as hard and match a lot of different colours. I used my UV curing resin system. First I cleaned the chip and removed the loose, crushed stone, then primed the area. I mixed coloured resins to match the grey base and the black and white flecks, and built the edge back up a small drop at a time, curing each layer with UV light before adding the next. Once it was full, I profiled it back to the shape of the edge and polished it to the same shine as the rest of the worktop. It took about 3 hours.
The result
The edge is back to its original line and the chip has gone into the pattern. The cured resin is super strong and durable, so it stands up to everyday knocks like the rest of the stone.
If your granite worktop has a chip, get it repaired before the edge takes another knock and more stone breaks away. You can send me a photo for a quote.
