Large Crack in Quartz Worktop Repaired in Rawtenstall
A long crack across a white engineered stone island had opened into a black line. I cleaned it out, filled it with colour-matched epoxy and polished it back until it was unnoticeable.

The damage
Donna's curved white engineered stone (quartz) island had a long crack running across it from the hob to the front edge, past the sink. It had been there for years without getting worse, but it had opened into a wide black line that drew your eye every time you walked into the kitchen. In the end her husband said fixing it was the only birthday present he wanted.
How I repaired it
A crack this size in stone is structural, so I was honest with Donna from the start: it wouldn't be completely invisible, and with any future movement it could open again. What I could do was take the black line away. I used a Dremel to remove any loose or overhanging material along the crack, then pressed a colour-matched epoxy filler down into it as deep as it would go, using one consistent colour matched to the worktop. Once it had cured, I sanded it flush and polished it back into the rest of the surface. It took about 2.5 hours.
The result
The black line has gone. Up close you can still find where the crack was, exactly as we discussed, but from normal standing distance it's unnoticeable, as the after photo shows.
If you have a crack in a stone or quartz worktop, send me a photo and I'll tell you honestly what result to expect before you book.
